Abstract

Lithium – ion batteries are described by mathematical model which involve variables such as electrolyte concentrations which are volume averaged over respective region. Other possible dependent variables can be solution phase potential and solution phase concentration. The schematic Lithium – ion cell sandwich defines three important distances lp , ls , and ln for positive electrode length, separator length, and negative electrode length, respectively. The perturbation techniques define the model and the number of solved equations. Lithium – ion batteries are characterized by three regions with differ physical properties and characterized equations in each region. The Lithium – ion model characterized ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are converted to delay differential equations (DDEs) which reflect the electrolyte concentrations delayed in time due to inconsistency and interferences in the solid – phase diffusion approximations and transient response. The key model delayed variables are electrolyte concentrations which are volume averaged over respective region
